Immortality may bore you. Click on the Image for more

As I’m finishing the second story in the Immortality’s End series, I can’t help but wonder if I’m thinking of only positive sides to living forever. Today, I thought about the actually time…forever. We think of all the things we can do if we had forever. But, an immortal will do all; they would see every country, meet every culture, taste every dish, and participate in any career of their choosing. Maybe after the year 2000, they might get bored?

For me, boredom is hard to fathom because there is always something to do and see. But, would I feel the same in 1000 years? I would hope that technological advancements would keep me entertained…. Guess I will never know.

My curiosity keeps me going with more weird questions. What I find most interesting about Tanis/Tara is that her memories do not include a lot of human advancements. Writing about Tanis/Tara helps me understand one fact: We all need each other. Even though Tanis/Tara’s experiences are supernatural, she is driven by her need for connection.

Don’t we all want this? I’m projecting right now as I reflect on my short life while understanding the reasons why I wrote this story. What do you think? Is boredom the consequence of immortality? Or would you have an endless party of new friends, lovers? How will you handle a loved ones’ death? The need for connection is apparent, will you be afraid to connect if people you love end up dead?
